Go Fishing during your stay
at the Birch Ridge Inn

The gentle surge of a cold mountain stream in the morning is excuse enough for many people to snap a fly line. But when you combine it with the beauty of the Vermont countryside, you have an opportunity for some memorable experiences. Whether your preference is to find a remote pond accessible only by footpath, wade hip deep into a stream, or search out fish by boat, an assortment of alternatives awaits you in Vermont. All close by to the Birch Ridge Inn.

Vermont provides many opportunities for sport fisherman. The mountain streams and brooks of the Green Mountain National Forest, like the Ottauquechee, are home to brook trout which require cold temperatures and very clean water. The larger rivers, which are warmer, hold brown and rainbow trout. Lakes in the area contain yellow perch, bass, northern pike, bullhead, landlocked salmon and lake trout.

Near the Birch Ridge Inn, Chittenden Reservoir holds salmon, brook, rainbow and brown trout. North Pond, South Pond, Colton Pond, and Beaver Pond are all home to brook trout; and Kent Pond also contains rainbow.

To fish Vermont waters, a fishing license is required for anyone over the age of 15. The license can be purchased at town clerk offices, and many general stores and sporting goods stores throughout the state.
